A Super Mario Adventure on the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Odyssey is a fun game for all ages. Nintendo did a great job with this latest installment into the Mario franchise. As someone who doesn’t tend to complete most Mario games, I still enjoyed it a whole lot. I can also say that my non-completing of Mario games is never due to them being poor quality. Mario as a character and franchise has just never held my attention for long. With that said, this game was incredibly well received critically. Scoring perfect and near perfect scores from everyone who reviewed it, Super Mario Odyssey is surely a safe buy.

Super Mario Odyssey feels like a step forward.
Mario is off on a new adventure, to once again save Princess Peach from Bowser. The player must control Mario and “Cappy” (Mario’s New Hat) while attempting to retrace Bower’s steps across a variety of colorful worlds. From lush jungles, to dry desserts and even a bustling city, Mario faces a bunch of new and old obstacles.
Super Mario Odyssey is considered a platforming adventure game. I wouldn’t call it open world, but it is more open world than some Mario games. One big change to this game is how Mario gets to new worlds. Mario (the player) collects moons to power up the Odyssey (his flying ship).
Cappy brings several new ways to play, as well as co-op potential.
If you haven’t noticed, Mario’s new hat has eyeballs. This is because his old hat gets crushed in the opening sequence of the game. Fear not though, because his hat is soon possessed by a strange species of hat shaped aliens. The alien, affectionately called “Cappy” decides to team up with Mario. Cappy serves as a new tool for Mario to utilize. Mario can throw his hat/Cappy at enemies to take control of them. When this happens the player becomes the enemy or object that Cappy has taken over. As a side note, Cappy can also be controlled by a second player, which allows for co-op play on the Nintendo Switch.
Cappy definitely adds a new level of strategy to the game. Most puzzles require the use of Cappy in some fashion or another. He will definitely be the most memorable part of this new Super Mario game.
As a whole, this game is solid. I feel comfortable recommending it to just about anyone. It has good replay-ability and provides a great time for kids and adults alike.
