Punch Buggy Bumblebee, no punch back!

This Transformer movie takes us all the way back to the year 1987. A young lady named Charlie is trying to find her place in the world, when she stumbles upon a broken down VW Beetle.

Spoiler! The car turns out to be a self-aware robot from outer space.

Seriously though, this movie felt like a throwback to the original live action Transformers movie released in 2007; starring Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox. The movie Bumblebee takes place before any of the previous Transformer movies and tells the story of Bumblebee himself. Starting with Bumblebee’s escape from Cybertron, the Transformer’s homeworld, and ending with Bumblebee driving off into the sunset to one day meet up with Shia Lebeouf.

Bumblebee may be the best Transformer’s movie yet.

This movie had a solid story, which is more than one can say for many of the Transformer films. Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeld, did a great job all around. I didn’t care for the “boy love interest” much, but I blame my dislike on the writing for the character and not on the actor himself, who played the part well. I found the male leads in this film to be a bit to silly and not taken seriously.

Despite some poor character writing, the entire cast, including John Cena, all did good jobs acting. But don’t we all come to these movies for the giant robots and stay for the over-sized fight scenes?

Bumbleebee and the rest of the Transformers are awesome. No and or buts about it, he is a fun character. Everyone liked Bumblebee in the prior Transformers films, and he is even cooler in this one.

Better Decepticons – Now in Color!

They finally did it right with this movie. Transformer Cartoons have always portrayed Decepticons with a lot of color, like reds, purples, blues and yellows. But the past few Transformer films have given us nothing but gray and black colored Decepticons. I’ve always felt like the decision to take the color out of them has led to them being unrecognizable and boring. The addition of some brightly colored Decepticons made me smile.

Unlike many of the Transformer movies, I feel safe recommending Bumblebee to just about anyone. I feel like this latest Transformers movie could very well have been a first entry into the series. It makes me wonder what the rest of the movies could have been.
