Skyrim – Review

Skyrim changed the world of video games forever.

Wowza! It has been a while since I played a game like this. Seeing something like Skyrim really makes other games fall to the wayside. A huge open world RPG at your fingertips. Take up your sword, and join the fight for Skyrim!

Skyrim is part of The Elder Scrolls series. It won game of the year in 2011, and sold over 20 million copies across 3 platforms. The game just feels complete. It has epic adventure story, with memorable characters. It has a cool interactive combat style, and a well designed skill tree system, The UI felt a bit naked at first, with almost nothing on your screen except YOU! But as I played, I began to appreciate the unrestricted view of the world around me. The lack of UI really allows for story immersion. Most games have a load of stuff on screen, such as radar and hotkeys, but Skyrim does not. At least it doesn’t in the default setting. The developers helped make the game very mod friendly, meaning that you can add things to the game. The ability to add on screen radar, change the graphics, and even alter parts of the game is available to download off the World Wide Web. With that said, the graphics and sound are quality enough, that I did not feel the need to mod my game the first time around.

Dragons, Knights, Vampires & Wizards!

I always try my best to not reveal any spoilers about the story of a game, but I do like to give a general feel of what to expect. So the main story arc of Skyrim is figuring out why the dragons have returned from extinction. The secondary story is picking a side in the civil war, between the Imperials and the Stormcloaks. Now you can do these stories at your own pace, or you can never do them. Either way, there is tons of optional content and quest lines to discover. Even when you complete the main story arcs, your adventure does not end, and you can continue exploring the world of Skyrim.

There is so much to do in Skyrim. There are hours content and DLC(down-loadable content). Do you want to become a dragon slaying hero? Or do you prefer the life of a blacksmith or trader? Do you want to become an assassin? Or would you rather live life as a vampire? You can even join the brotherhood of werewolves, learn magic, or wield dual swords. Everything in Skyrim is an option, and everything affects the world around you.

Skyrim is a very fun game. I recommend it to any action adventure RPG players out there.
