What is the best business computer, and does that differ from what the best business computer for YOU is?
It really all depends on what you’ll be doing. Most company offices can survive on a dual core processor, 4gb ram, 500gb hard drive, and an integrated GPU. The more accepted standard of today though is a quad core processor, 1tb hard drive, 8gb ram, and an integrated GPU. As far as operating systems go, Windows 10 is the best and most widely used. But what does all that computer stuff mean?
CPU – Central Processing Unit (aka the computer brain)
Ram – Random Access Memory (aka short term memory)
Harddrive – Where things are saved & stored (aka long term memory)
GPU – Graphics Processing Unit (aka the eyes of the computer)
“While it may be tempting to buy a simple consumer PC from a big-box store like Best Buy or Wal-Mart, you’ll probably be doing yourself and your customers a disservice if you do.” – PC Mag
After choosing your internal hardware, you have to decide which external hardware you want to use (monitors, mice, keyboards, speakers, etc). There is a huge difference between a $5 mouse and a $75 mouse. Make sure to look at brand names, and read up on reviews. Spending a little extra up front will save you time and money in the future. Some monitors are adjustable, and some are mountable. Some can charge phones, and some have way more image power than you need. Just like every part of the computer, you really need to pay attention to what is important.
There’s a big difference between a computer built for emailing and occasional browsing, versus one built for photo editing, 3D imaging, and engineering programs. Make sure not to over or under spend in the areas you need. Some companies offer all-in-one packages. Although these are convenient, they do not offer as much customization to certain needs. Some websites will sell you individual computer parts, and this is great if you know how to build a computer. But what if you don’t? The internet is your best friend. Research will yield reviews, and reviews will be very enlightening.
Some of the top computer brands for 2017:
