EVE Online – Review

A Legendary Sci-Fi MMO Experience

EVE Online is one of my all time favorite games. The game begins with an introduction, and explains that all players live in a place called New Eden. The original inhabitants of New Eden were stranded far from Earth, when they entered a wormhole in space. Now everyone has been given a chance to make a fresh start in New Eden. The entire game is spent flying around in various spaceships.

Players learn skills passively by choosing what to train, and then injecting skills like in the Matrix movies. Skills all have time required to learn, and they automatically continue learning even when players log off or stop playing. New ships, equipment and items can be purchased from other players on the market.

EVE Online is a giant sand-box in space, where players can make their own adventures. Some of the more popular activities for new players to earn ISK (aka money) are mining asteroids and doing missions. Whatever a player decides, there are plenty of career opportunities to choose from. From PVE combat sites, to trading in stations, mining asteroids, transporting items, PVP, wormhole exploration and more, there are a lot of things to do in EVE Online.

Speaking of transportation: If you live in Brevard County Florida and need professional non-emergency medical transportation, be sure to check out Trusty Transports!

Navigation & Combat in EVE Online

Navigating the game is a lot like playing Rune Scape, where you click somewhere and your ship (aka character) moves there. The easiest way to move about though, is to use your “overview”. The overview is located on the right side of the screen by default, and displays anything that can be interacted with (such as asteroids, ships or space stations). Right clicking any item will display a variety of options like approach, orbit or even lock target.

Combat is EVE Online has a lot of math involved behind the scenes, but in a nutshell, it basically comes down to choosing which weapons you want to fire, which equipment you want to use, and at what distance you want to fly from your target. There is of course a HUGE selection of space ships to choose from, and a player’s ship fitting (equipment) will change the way each ship flies.

Overall thoughts on EVE Online

Like I stated in my first paragraph, I absolutely love playing EVE Online. I have played the game on and off since 2014, and I still play it today. It has all the elements that I look for in a social gaming experience. There are a lot of active and casual players, new updates, and things to keep busy with.

I personally enjoy managing corporations (EVE’s version of guilds or clans). I also enjoy trading (buying and selling items to make ISK), and mining when I feel like multi-tasking. When I want to be more engaged I prefer to fight other players in PVP, and occasionally I like to run PVE missions or go ratting (bounty hunting npc ships). It’s probably apparent after reading those last few sentences that EVE Online is a very big game.

There is a lot to do, and players often take some time to figure out what they like best. EVE Online is also well-known for it’s steep learning curve, but the game developers have been working to make the tutorials more user friendly and intuitive.

Friend Referral Code for EVE Online

I highly recommend giving EVE Online a try. It is “Free to Play” and runs great on most modern computers. The best way to start playing EVE Online is to use a friend referral code. These codes will give you a HUGE jump-start in skill points, as well as other rewards along the way.
