A Magical World.

Written by J.K. Rowling, this book is the first in a series of tales about Harry Potter. The story follows an eleven year old orphan boy. He lives with his Aunt and Uncle and is very mistreated by them. On his eleventh birthday he finds out that he is a wizard, and is whisked away to a school for witchcraft and wizardry.

Throughout the book he overcomes challenge’s and makes new friends. It is a rather upbeat book, despite the beginning being so gloom. The characters are well developed, the world is vast, and the writing is excellent. It is no wonder that these books have done so well. The imagination behind the world of Harry Potter is clear to see, and very entertaining to read about.

I found myself attentive and ready to read what was next. I have never seen the movies, but have been to Harry Potter World, at Universal Studios. I enjoyed the book, and if I didn’t have so many other titles on my list, would consider reading the rest.

The book may be frightening to younger readers. It describes Harry’s parents dying, and has several moments involving dark hooded characters, and dead animals. I would advise parental caution about letting younger children read this book. I would also recommend it to readers who love adventure, action, and fantasy worlds. I give Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone a 8 out of 10.
