Summary & Thoughts:
As the second installment of the Divergent series, I didn’t know what to expect. Sequels are usually very good, or very bad. This one fits in the good category, but just barely. The acting was as good as the first movie, and the soundtrack was appropriate. The action was entertaining and fast paced.
So why wasn’t it great? It was missing a good solid story. Insurgent is the middle book of a series, and it felt like the middle movie. I suppose that’s not a reason to complain, but many movies make a sequel feel like it’s own stand alone film. This film is 100% dependent on the other two, and it would never make a good movie on it’s own.
Aside from all of that, the movie is an action packed adventure. It continues the story of Tris and Four, as they search for allies to fight against the power hungry erudite faction. There are several dream sequences, and simulations, so if you’re not paying attention, you will definitely get a little confused. I wouldn’t recommend this film for young children, as it is very graphically violent. Insurgent makes a good rental if you’ve seen the first, but I would hold off on buying it until you can get all three.
