The Force fights with me!
Knights of the Old Republic is perhaps the best Star Wars game ever made. This beautifully crafted RPG has stood the test of time. Originally released in 2003, it has recently been ported to IOS. You can now experience this great adventure from your phone or tablet.
You begin the game as a soldier aboard the Endar Spire. Your ship is under attack by a Sith fleet. As you stumble around learning the basics of movement and combat, you are guided toward an escape pod. Upon crashing onto the planet Taris you are welcomed into a larger world. This first open world Star Wars game has dozens of things to do. Your first mission is to find a Jedi named Bastilla and then escape Taris together.
Perhaps the best part about this game is the open world. For the first time in a Star Wars RPG you can wander about picking up side quests, and exploring the world around you. There are hundreds of optional pieces of content. The fact that it’s all Star Wars only adds to the excitement. Everything in the world feels and looks like it was pulled straight out of a Star Wars movie.
I will not spoil the main story, but as you make your way through the galaxy you eventually become a Jedi. You can still choose to use blasters and vibro-swords, but you now have the option of a lightsaber. As you level up you get to unlock a variety of skills and force powers. You get to customize the way your character plays, and this allows for great re-playablity. Abilities and gear are not the only way to customize your experience though. You can also make light and dark-side decisions. These choices affect your character, allies, and game ending. As you make these decisions you eventually find yourself racing across the galaxy uncovering Star Maps in an effort to stop the Sith Empire’s rise to power.
I really can’t say enough good things about this game. It definitely makes my top three list of best games ever. I would recommend picking it for $2.99 on the app store. If you want to try it on a larger screen, then it’s also available on Xbox and PC.
