It was quite a Maleficent movie!
Jokes aside, I really did enjoy watching Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil. It was a great continuation of the first film.
Maleficent, played by Angelina Jolie, is back and many years have passed. Maleficent’s daughter Aurora is engaged to be married to Prince Phillip, but Phillip’s queen mother has other plans. When things get heated between Maleficent and Queen Ingrith, family ties are strained and a war seems inevitable.
Maleficent 2 is an all too familiar story.
This movie is set in the same universe, or at least derived from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. However, the story varies greatly from the cartoon Disney film, and follows more closely to the original tale of Maleficent and Aurora. Maleficent is a Dark Fey charged with protecting the Moors, a swamp land filled with magical creatures.
Disney usually does a great job with live action fairy tale films, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is no exception. I walked out of the theater smiling and so did my wife. We both enjoyed the movie a lot and thought it was well worth seeing in theaters. We will even watch it again when it comes to home video.
(spoiler alert)
Most of my favorite scenes were of the many new Dark Fey that we got to meet. We find out in this movie that Maleficent is not the only living Dark Fey, and that there is a whole colony of them. This in turn makes for a pretty cool ending to the film where we get to see a huge battle between Dark Fey and Humans.
