Keeping up with the story is like running a maze.
I’ll be honest and say that I had no idea this movie had even come out this year. I watched the first two Maze Runner films and enjoyed them, but this one snuck up on me. This third installment continues where The Scorch Trials left off. Thomas and his friends are raiding trains in an effort to save their captured friend. Aside from some action sequences and character development nothing really changes in this movie. By the end of The Death Cure the story comes to a close without accomplishing much.
Great Acting, Memorable Characters, & an Interesting Story Concept.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure felt a bit drawn out to me. I feel like they could have gone more in depth with the story had they cut out some of the drawn out action scenes. If this movie hadn’t had such a great cast and story concept to draw from, it would have been a cinematic disaster. I had to finish this film in two sittings, but not for lack of interest. I actually liked all three Maze Runner films and will consider buying them as a box set.
The Maze Runner could have been so much more!
Prior to writing my own review I browsed the internet to read some story synopsis. Here is what I found: “Young hero Thomas embarks on a mission to find a cure for a deadly disease known as The Flare.” I literally laughed out loud when I saw this. Wasn’t that the same synopsis as the second film? I feel like the second two films could have been handled a bit better. The Maze Runner series could have been something truly amazing if it had been done correctly.
With that said, I do recommend watching all 3 movies. They are better together and will make little sense if watched separately or out of order. I’m a pretty big zombie fan and I enjoy a good action film. This movie has a lot of great aspects to it, but it could have been so much more.
