Men and Women in Black
I was very excited to hear the announcement for Men in Black International. It didn’t matter to me who would star in it, or when in the timeline it took place, I was just excited to see another addition to the Men in Black franchise. I have always enjoyed the MIB series.
This latest installment stars Liam Neeson, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Agent M (Tessa) and Agent H (Hemsworth) team up to save the world from extinction. The movie is rather self aware as it makes a big deal about Agent M being a Woman in Black. I think that Tessa Tompson did a great job in her role as Agent M, and I found her to be both likable and comical.
Chris Hemsworth probably sold the most movie tickets and for good reason. He is super famous and trendy. He also did a great job in Men in Black International. Honestly, everyone’s acting was a strong point for the movie.
Good Action, Funny Moments, but a Weak Plot
The action scenes were cool. There were new aliens, new guns, car chase scenes, explosions and just about everything you’d want from an action movie. The comedy was definitely there, but a lot of it was subtle. The comedy matched the acting/personality styles of both Hemsworth and Thompson.
I’ve said a lot of nice things about this movie, but I have nothing good to say about the plot or story writing. It was very cliche, bland and disappointing. It felt like a cookie cutter Hallmark movie, and not one of the good ones.
With that said, I did enjoy the movie. Men in Black International does not seem to be fairing well with the critics, but I would still recommend watching it in theaters. All film franchises have their ups and downs. I have hope that the next MIB film will be better than this one.
