Building your own world.

Minecraft, the game of mining, crafting, and mining while you craft. This game is seriously addicting and fun. Minecraft is a voxel world, meaning everything is made of blocks. From your player character, to the ground, and even the trees, everything is made of destructible blocks. These square blocks can be picked up, destroyed, and replaced.

The goal of minecraft is to survive the wilderness, while building things. You can stack blocks of various types (dirt, stone, ice, etc). With these blocks you can create houses, castles, walls, and just about anything you can imagine. You can craft tools to help your character pick up blocks faster, like an ax to chop wood blocks. Minecraft has a fantastic crafting system. You can take wood blocks and turn them into wood planks → sticks → tools/torches etc. You can craft boats, doors, mine carts, swords, bows, and much more.

You can take your pick-ax and mine deep into the earth looking for valuable ore. You can find, iron, gold, and diamonds. You can use these new ores to craft better weapons, and tools to help you in your adventures. If mining isn’t your thing though, there is plenty of other stuff to do. You can fight creeps, hunt animals, fly pigs, and explore the giant ever expanding world of minecraft.

Making your own adventures.

In your adventures you may come across villages, hidden temples, booby traps, and abandoned mine shafts. You craft certain items to summon monsters and dragons, to fight and slay! As you are doing all of these things you must watch your health and food bars to stay alive. Eating a variety of food to keep your food bar full, will allow your health to recharge and stay full. Dropping below one heart point will cause your character to explode, and drop everything in your inventory.

Minecraft has a day/night cycle, and as night approaches beware the spawning monsters! Spiders, skeletons, and creeps will attack you from the darkness. You must be ready to fend them off with weapons, or hide away in a dwelling. Thankfully you can craft torches and lamps to light your way.

Creating your own fun.

Whether you play on public servers, or host your own, this game is most enjoyable with friends. The nice part about hosting your own world, is that your creations are safe when you log off. You can showoff off your latest accomplishments to your friends, and team up to make amazing things.

If the dangers of minecraft just don’t tickle your fancy, then you can play in creative mode. Creative mode reminds me of Lego simulator, where you can build whatever you want freely. It is a great way to use your imagination, but seems to lack any real challenge.

Minecraft is loads of fun, and can be purchased from www.Minecraft.net for $26.95. It is free to download and host your own server. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a little creative building.
