Moonshot is a fun romantic comedy.
The trailer for Moonshot was funny enough that my wife and I decided to give it a watch. Just shy of 2 hours later, we found ourselves pleasantly surprised at how much we liked the movie. Moonshot is a funny romantic comedy available on HBO Max. It had us laughing the whole way through, but not too much, as it also had serious moments. We enjoyed the movie enough, that we would even watch it again sometime.
Story Synopsis for Moonshot
The movie Moonshot takes place in the year 2049. Walt is a hardworking barista on a college campus. Walt’s dream is to one day go to space, and possibly the planet Mars. The second main character is a girl named Sophie, who is a no-nonsense student studying at the same college.

Walt ends up meeting a girl named Ginny. They spend the night together talking and looking at the stars. Walt believes himself to be in love with Ginny, which turns out to be both sad and funny, as he soon finds out that she is leaving for Mars.
Sometime later Walt and Sophie meet for the first time at his job. After interrupting and breaking Sophie’s communication orb, Walt convinces her to buy a ticket to Mars, so that she can be with her boyfriend Calvin, and his family. Walt begs Sophie to take him to Mars, but since she won’t help, he finds a way to sneak aboard the space ship.
In an odd, but expected turn of events, Walt and Sophie find themselves hiding together and keeping his secret as they travel to Mars. The two of them fall in love on their journey, which adds some drama to the already crazy situation that they find themselves in.

Upon reaching Mars, Walt is placed under arrest, and Sophie moves in with her boyfriend. Walt discovers that he was actually allowed to sneak aboard the spaceship by it’s wealthy owner, and is offered an amazing life on Mars as long as he agrees to be the company’s poster boy.
Sophie decides that she wants to go back to Earth and focus on her environment saving research. Walt finds out that she is leaving and gives up his place on Mars to fly with her back to Earth. The movie Moonshot ends with Sophie and Walt traveling back to Earth together.
