Telling new and old tales alike.

This latest addition in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise finally ties up some loose ends. We are introduced to Henry Turner, played by Brenton Thwaites, who is the son of William Turner and Elizabeth Swan. Henry is on a mission to find the Trident of Poseidon and release his father from being cursed.

While seeking out the help of the infamous Jack Sparrow, he is joined by a young scientist named Carina. The three friends set out for the Trident of Poseidon, and soon find themselves pursued by the villainous Captain Salazar. Salazar is a blast from Jack’s past and proves to be quite a bit of trouble.

Don’t believe everything you hear.

I heard mixed opinions on this movie before going in, so I came with guarded expectations. One podcast I frequently listen to tore this movie a new one, particularly Johnny Depp’s performance. I however found myself completely swept away and totally onboard with this crazy adventure. I enjoyed every moment of the film. I found the acting to be superb, the action to be ridiculously hilarious, and the overall story to be satisfying.

I’ve been waiting years to see what became of William Turner and Elizabeth Swan, and that isn’t even the only story wrapped up in this movie. People are saying that this will be the final installment in the franchise, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Without spoiling them, two of my favorite scenes were the bank robbery and the guillotine. Don’t worry, you’ll recognize them when you see them. In my opinion these two scenes envelop and define what a Pirates of the Caribbean movie is suppose to be.

Is there such  a thing as too much Johnny Depp?

There most certainly is not! Johnny Depp provides some of the most oddball and comedic performances of his career in these Pirate films, and I would pay every year to watch a new one. I enjoy Pirate of the Caribbean movies like I enjoy a good Fast and the Furious, or a new Marvel movie.

I definitely recommend catching this one in theaters, but I’d warn parents against bringing young children. This Pirate movie, like its predecessors, contains witchcraft, magic, and a few sexual innuendos.

So grab your pirate hat and bowl of popcorn, and get to your local theater before it’s too late!
