Summary and Thoughts:
From the moment I saw the trailer, this cute and comical cartoon grabbed my attention. I figured it would make a good father son date, and it did. Ratchet & Clank was a well done movie. The story was simple, but still effective. The movie moved along at a quick pace, and the space adventure theme really went a long way.
The story follows two heroes (Ratchet & Clank), as they work together to save the galaxy from an evil mad scientist. With spaceships, laser guns, and “sheepinator” rays, this movie definitely qualifies as a Sci-Fi. The animation and music was all spot on. The jokes are cheesy, but children will most likely enjoy them.
The voice acting was perhaps the best part of the film. I really enjoy James Arnold Taylor’s work. He did a great job bringing Ratchet to life. I feel that if more screen time and character development for Ratchet had been added to the movie, that it would have been rated better overall. Ratchet’s sidekick Clank was a rather cute addition to the film as well. He provided comedy and support to the main character. I would have liked to see more relationship development between these two primary characters.
I can’t really say anything bad about this film, but it also doesn’t have any “must see” qualities to it. Ratchet & Clank is a fine movie. My 3 year old really enjoyed it, and that says a lot. I recommend catching it before it goes out of theater, or picking it up as a rental when it becomes available.
