I purchased and viewed this film recently for the first time. My wife had said she enjoyed it, and that’s generally good enough for me. I didn’t know much going in, and I’ve never seen Mary Poppins. With that said, I do know the gist of Mary Poppins, and I frequently visit Disney World.
This dramatic tale of the working relationship between P.L. Travers and Walt Disney himself proved to be worth the watch. The story followed P.L. Travers as she reluctantly agreed to allow Walt to make her beloved book into a semi-animated film. It also featured many flash backs to her childhood, including the death of her father. I noticed several nods to the film Mary Poppins, and I bet that someone more familiar would catch much more. The movie had its sad moments, but for the most part it kept upbeat with a touch a comedy.
The acting was great. I especially enjoyed Tom Hanks portrayal of Walt Disney. The events of the film remained close to the true story, and it all had a happy ending. I feel you can’t really ask for much more in a film these days. I recommend it for adult audiences and consider it a good purchase.
