Solo: A Star Wars Story (Movie Review)

“I got a really good feeling about this.” – Han Solo

Solo: A Star Wars Story takes a look into Han’s past. Starting out as a slum rat on Correlia, Han escapes and joins the Imperial Navy. We then witness the most important and iconic moments of his life, from meeting Chewbacca to getting the Millenium Falcon. The story follows Han, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian and some new Star Wars characters as they attempt to pull a heist for the Crime Syndicate Red Crimson.

“I waited a long time for a shot like this.” – Han Solo

Every time I watched a new trailer or movie clip for Solo I got more excited. I was anxiously awaiting this movie and saw it twice within opening week. Just writing this review makes me want to watch the film again. I’m not even sure what makes it so great, but the movie as a whole is a fun ride. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Han and Chewie made a great combo, as always, and had quite a few comedic moments.  Donald Glover did such an incredible job as Lando, that he is now one of my favorite Star Wars characters.

The villian Dryden Vos was awesome, and was played by Paul Bettany. The female lead Qi’ra, played by Emilia Clarke, had great chemistry with Han, and we even got to meet a new lovable droid. But maybe more than anything else, I was blown away by Woody Harrelson’s role as Beckett. Becket plays a father type role as team leader for Han’s crew. He got just as much screen time as anyone else and really put it all to good use. His character is both memorable and likable. I won’t spoil anything else about him, but he’s definitely made my top 10 favorite character list.

“Everything you heard about me is true.” – Lando Calrissian

Solo: A Star Wars Story had a low opening weekend at the box office, but so far everyone seems to love it. The critics are even giving it great scores. Every time I talk to someone about the film they have nice things to say about it. So the slow opening weekend must’ve be due to high school graduation’s or poor marketing on Disney’s part. Either way this movie is still amazing, and I HIGHLY recommend watching it.

Disney has announced a sequel to this movie, which makes sense since they took the time to find and cast a young Han Solo. I cannot wait to see more from this cast of characters, and will be there opening day to support.
