A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…

There was an awesome movie called The Force Awakens. My anticipation for this film could not have been higher. I expected Star Wars VII to be great and it was. With old and new faces on screen, we were brought back to the beloved Star Wars universe to experience the next generation of heroes. This movie could not have been better, and I look forward to the next installments.

(Spoilers Ahead)

This movie follows the main characters Rey and Finn. Rey is a desert scavenger without a family, and Finn is a Stormtrooper with a moral compass. They meet up early in the movie, and then set out on an adventure to find the legendary Luke Skywalker. Along the way they meet up with iconic Star Wars characters from the previous trilogy.

The setting felt right, the use of real locations made for stunning scenes, and the actors were very well chosen. The special effects were outstanding, and the story was captivating. There were several nods to the original trilogy, and a few comedic moments. The presence of a Jar Jar Binks/Wicket type character was not present, so the comedy was not clumsy slap-stick. The movie even went as far as to injure and kill main characters.  There was no holding back from making this film a new Star Wars for a new generation. I enjoyed all 136 minutes of action packed goodness!

Being set so far into the future from previous films, the movie had a lot to catch people up on. The movie can be seen as a stand alone film, but viewers will get the most out of it, if they take the time to watch Star Wars Episode IV, V, and VI first. There are several family ties brought up in The Force Awakens. Some are explored more than others, and some are left to be fleshed out in the next two films.

The Millennium Falcon makes an appearance, and the new X-wings and Tie Fighters are awesome! The new droid BB-8 gets much more screen time than R2-D2 and C3PO. And The same can be said for the new characters, when compared to the older ones. It is easy to see that this new trilogy is starting fresh, with new faces, and new stories to be told. I don’t want to spoil anymore, but I will say that this is “THE MUST SEE” movie of the year.  Drop a comment below, and tell us what you thought of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
