Summary & Thoughts:
Developed by Sqaure Enix, Tomb Raider takes us back in time, to Lara Croft’s first real adventure. As you start the game, you are shipwrecked and stranded on the island of Yamatai. You wake up after being knocked out, and are immediately welcomed by your first puzzle. You must figure out how to get yourself untied from the ceiling. Â After doing so, and narrowly escaping a collapsing cave, your adventure continues into the rest of the island.
Tomb Raider is played from a 3rd person view, and features elements of action, puzzle, and RPG. As you explore and fulfill quests, you can level up abilities, and upgrade your tools. There are a variety of enemies, such as cultists, wild beasts, Russians, and even the weather elements. The controls are well tuned, and the game feels very polished. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure RPG, and look forward to playing more in the series.
The story is very well written. It has a sense of suspense to it, and I continually found myself surprised. You encounter human sacrifice, spooky bunkers, and are greeted with jump scenes in just about every dark cave. It is a real edge of your seat experience. I would recommend Tomb Raider to any lover of adventure RPG’s.
