A creative Sci-Fi adventure.
Knowing absolutely nothing about this movie prior to seeing it, I had a clean slate of expectations. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was kind of out there, even for a Sci-Fi film. The main character’s Laureline and Valerian are special operatives who maintain peace and order. I think they are meant to be some kind of space police.
One thing I liked about this movie was the acting. I found the characters, particularly the main characters, to be interesting and well played. I liked the “hard to get” playful love story between them. I also found the non-stop action to be attention grabbing. There were really some pretty neat ideas all around.
Truly imaginative and out of this world.
Every scene of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was filled with new aliens, ideas, and places. I was expecting some sort of explanation or tutorial of the world to show up eventually, but about half way through I gave up and just hung around for the ride. This movie is just one of those crazy out there stories. The rules of our world don’t apply and things don’t make sense.
Valerian is a solid respectful Sci-Fi film.
I don’t ever see myself watching Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets again, but it was a good one time watch. I would be careful who I recommend it to, because it really doesn’t strike me as a film for everyone. If you can watch it for free, or at least inexpensively, then I say give it a go.
