Wish Dragon is a tale of friendship.
Wish Dragon is about a teenager named Din and his childhood friend Li Na. The movie starts out with both of them as young children, and focuses on their budding friendship. They then find themselves separated for many years until they both become teenagers preparing for college.
Having not seen each other for a long time, Din has plans to show up at Li Na’s birthday party and surprise her. The only problem is that her family is very wealthy and his is not. It is very much an “Aladdin” style story, where a young man finds a magic pot that contains a wish granting dragon. Din is given three wishes, and the rest of the movie revolves around him deciding what to do with them.
Overall thoughts on Wish Dragon
I heard that the movie was funny and cute, and so I decided to watch it with my family. The whole family thought it was a fine watch, but not something that we would watch again soon or regularly.
It has some really funny moments, some decent moral lessons, and a lot of filler. The movie literally followed the same story beats as Disney’s “Aladdin” story. So much so, that it was predictable. The only main difference is that the Wish Dragon himself has a moral lesson to learn about friendship and putting others first.
Wish Dragon was recently released on Netflix. Give it a watch if you have nothing better to do, or if it sounds like your kind of movie. Thanks for reading my review of Wish Dragon!
