Wonka is an instant classic
A lot of us had high hopes for the latest Wonka film as it hit theaters. Would it be more like the original book Wonka, the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or the most recent Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
I was excited to see for myself if this latest Wonka movie would be any good. I am happy to report that it is indeed very good. Wonka is a feel good musical number that gives audiences a peak into the mysterious chocolate makers past. The movie answers questions about Wonka’s childhood, his love for chocolate, and how he got his start in the chocolate business.
This Wonka movie is a whimsical musical adventure
The movie has me smiling the whole way through. It was fun, colorful, and creative. Timothee Chalamet’s portrayal of Wonka was a sweet treat. He brought a youthful charm to the character, and his musical numbers were my favorite by far.
The additional characters in the film were forgettable, unlike the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which featured a dozen memorable, and rather bratty characters. It doesn’t matter though, because timothee Chalamet Carried the film.
Could it have been written and directed better? Sure, I think it could have been twice as good. But I am happy enough with what we got this time around.
One character that came to the screen too late was the Oompa Loompa played by Hugh Grant. He was funny and just awesome, but he did not have enough screentime to really leave a lasting impression.
I consider Wonka to be family friendly for all ages. Thanks for reading my review of Wonka. I hope that it helps you decide if this movie is worth your time.
