Bridgerton – Season 1 Review

Bridgerton Series brought to TV by Netflix

Season 1 of Bridgerton is brand new to Netflix, based on the book “The Duke and I”, part of the Bridgerton book series; written by Julia Quinn. It launched with 8 episodes, and has been deemed a huge success. A second season is planned to start filming in March of 2021.

My wife and I watched Bridgerton together, and both of us enjoyed it. We watched it over the course of a few days, and recommended it to some family and friends. It is worth noting that Bridgerton is rated MA (for mature audiences), and contains 2 or more “adult scenes” per episode on average. You can of course skip over these brief scenes, and enjoy the rest of the show for what it is, a fantastic story of love, family and drama.

Bridgerton Season One – Story Breakdown

The story follows several families, but focuses mostly on the Bridgertons. Season 1 of the Bridgertons follows the love story between the eldest daughter Daphne and a Duke named Simon. The two love birds start out their relationship by pretending to court one another. Daphne hopes to become more desirable by having a Duke court her, and the Duke wants to appear unavailable, as he does not intend to ever settle down. The two of them end up falling in love and getting married, but the show does not stop there.

The Duke had a verbally abusive childhood and holds his late father in contempt. He swears to never father children of his own, just to spite his father. But things get complicated when he falls in love with Daphne. Their marriage story explores several aspects of marriage: from the honeymoon phase, to building a friendship, and most of all learning to trust one another.

What’s next for the Bridgerton Series?

Each book in the original series focuses on a different Bridgerton’s love story. Some folks are assuming that the TV seasons will do the same, and if it happens, then Season 2 is expected to be primarily focused on the eldest brother Anthony. I have not read the books, but I personally think that Daphne and Simon will continue to be a major part of the show, if not the central focus.

I recommend giving this show a watch. You can catch it on Netflix and watch all eight episodes right away.
