Dune (2021)

Dune released in Theaters and HBO Max

Dune Story Synopsis

Dune is set in the distant future, and tells the story of a young man named Paul Atreides. Paul is born into a royal family, and also trained from birth as a powerful sorcerer. Leto is both Paul’s father, and ruler of their planet. Lady Jessica is Paul’s mother, and also an important figure within a secret society of sorcerers.

The movie Dune starts out introducing us to another character named Chani, played by Zendaya, who lives on the planet Arrakis. Chani is a mysterious desert dwelling character that Paul has been having dreams about. Paul’s family is entrusted by the Emperor with securing and taking care of the planet Arrakis, and so they relocate from their home world Atreides to Arrakis.

Arrakis is the most important planet in the galaxy, as it produces something called spice. Spice is a popular hallucinogen on the planet Arrakis, but across the galaxy it is used for interstellar space travel. As the film Dune progresses, not everything goes according to plan, and Paul finds himself fighting for his life in the vast desert of Dune.

Overall thoughts on Dune

The internet has some mixed reviews of Dune, with some people calling it a masterpiece, and others a snooze fest. I personally found it very enjoyable to watch. The movie Dune was beautiful from a cinematic standpoint. The camera work and visual effects were stunning. The acting was right on point, and the world itself was easy to get lost in.

The movie Dune is only “part 1” in this new movie series, which is based off the hit sci-fi book series Dune. The entire 155 minutes of part 1 only covered about half of the first book. I am definitely looking forward to seeing where the next films take us and how the story unfolds.

I recommend giving Dune a watch either in theaters or at home on HBO Max. Thanks for reading our review of the movie Dune. Be sure to subscribe to the blog, and follow us on social media @HalfFullReviews!
