The Huntsman Winter’s War (2016)

Summary & Thoughts:

This movie is a prequel and sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. Part of the film happens prior to the events of the first movie, and then 7 years fast forward. Snow White does not make an appearance in this one, but Prince Charming does, and so does the Evil Queen. The main story revolves around the huntsman, played by Chris Helmsworth, and his wife Sara. Together they team up to fight off the evil ice queen Freya and her army of huntsman.

I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. The character development was terrific. I particularly enjoyed the time spent on Eric and Sara’s childhood as huntsmen. Time was taken to build relationships between the main characters, and the other huntsmen. The movie also kept a focus on the main characters. This allowed for a really great story to unfold.

I really liked the cast choices, especially for the central characters. Great acting allowed for the story to be engaging, comical, and yet still serious. I have nothing bad to say about this film. I enjoyed this one more than the original, but I’m also not sure if a third one will be able to add anything. It may be best to stop at two. Either way, I recommend this movie as a rental and/or purchase.
