Pokemon Unite (Review)

Pokemon’s first strategic team battle game!

Pokemon Unite is available for Nintendo Switch, and on the Apple and GooglePlay stores for smartphone. Join or create a team of 5 players as you battle an opposing team to score points.

Play as some of your favorite Pokemon as you work to acquire points, and score them on your opponent’s goals. At the end of 10 minutes, the team with the most points wins. Pokemon Unite has a variety of different game modes to choose from, as well as holiday events, daily challenges, and more.

Overall thoughts on Pokemon Unite

I have been playing Pokemon games ever since the 90’s. This latest game is very different than anything Pokemon Company has done before, and it is very much a MOBA (massive online battle arena) like League of Legends (click the link to listen to our podcast episode).

Pokemon Unite is fun and fast paced. Most of the popular Pokemon are already in game, and I imagine that they will be adding more. I played for about a week before switching from casual to ranked mode, and the game keeps surprising me with how in depth the strategy and team work goes. The game plays friendly to casual players, and holds a lot of the advanced controls back until people choose to enable them.

Pokemon Unite is free to download and play. Cosmetic items, additional playable Pokemon, and other things are available to purchase with real money or in game currency. The grind for in-game currency is a little slow, but it’s understandable considering that the game is free to play.

I definitely recommend giving Pokemon Unite a try.
