Shazam! (2019)

Just shout SHAZAM!

Billy Batson is a normal 14 year old kid who has been bounced around from home to home. He has never really fit in, but he has also never really tried. When we finds himself sucked into another dimension, he is confronted by a wizard who bestows super powers upon him. All Billy has to do is shout the word – SHAZAM – and he can turn into a grown-up / adult superhero Shazam.

When I first heard about this movie, I was a bit skeptical. I had previous knowledge of the superhero Shazam, and I sort of knew who he was. The movie trailer looked funny, but I was in no rush to see the film. Time passed and Shazam came to home video, so I decided to rent it and give it a watch.

Shazam was better than expected.

Shazam was much funnier than I expected, and it felt well made. The movie had good pacing, and I was surprised to learn that it was over two hours long, even after watching it. It was mostly family friendly, except that it had a lot of mention of demons and magic in it. So just keep that in mind when you go to watch it.

With that said, I recommend catching this movie as a rental next time you’re bored. It’s no Marvel movie, but it stacks up to many of the more recent DC films.
