Thor: Ragnarok (2017) – Movie Review

Thor: Ragnarok was funnier than Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thor: Ragnarok had the whole audience I was with laughing from start to finish. I was shocked at how much the “god of thunder” made me laugh. The past couple films featuring Thor have had a more serious tone, but this one just went buck wild crazy with silly stunts and comedic remarks. Every single character was funny, even the new villain Hela.

It was one Hela of a movie.

Without going into spoilers this movie has two main plot lines. The first story line was featured heavily in the movie trailers, and pitted Thor verses the incredible Hulk. This epic gladiator battle took place far from the rest of the story on a strange planet filled with blood thirsty spectators.

Despite this arena battle being portrayed as a major part of the film, it only took up a short portion. The majority of the story was based around the new villain Hela. Returning from exile, Hela has her eyes set on Asgard, and it’s up to Thor, Loki, Hulk to stop her.

A new direction for the Thor franchise.

If this film is any indication of future Thor films, or even of Marvel films in general, we may see them start to take a more comedic and light-hearted approach to story telling. The music and dialogue of this film kept pace with the latest Guardians of the Galaxy.

I Thor-oughly enjoyed this movie. It is definitely my favorite Thor film yet, and I look forward to more. Disney is doing a great job at keeping the Marvel Cinematic Universe fresh.
